TROUBLE LOOMS AS TINUBU'S "PLAN B" PURPORTEDLY THWARTED AS SDP ELECTS PRESIDENTIAL STANDARD BEARER

A former senator representing Anambra Central, Ebenezer Ikeyina has picked the presidential ticket of Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The development might have sealed the chances of National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, crossing over, if he fails to clinch his party’s presidential ticket.
While addressing delegates from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja during its national convention, the Acting SDP National Chairman, Supo Shonibare, expressed optimism that the party’s candidates seeking various elective positions would be victorious during the 2023 general elections.
According to the Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee, Mike Odunrinde, out of the 311 delegates accredited, 307 voted in favour of Ikeniya, two voted against, while only one vote was voided.

However like the scenario in Bauchi State Governorship Bala Mohammed and Sokoto State Senate for Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, all hope is not lost as Tinubu can explore Section 33, of the Electoral Act, 2022 through withdrawal of the current holder of the flag to contest on the platform of the SDP.
“A political party shall not be allowed to change or substitute its candidate whose name has been submitted under section 29 of this Act, except in the case of death or withdrawal by the candidate:

Provided that in the case of such withdrawal or death of a candidate, the political party affected shall, within 14 days of the occurrence of the event, hold a fresh primary election to produce and submit a fresh candidate to the Commission for the election concerned.”
