Nigerian women and other well-meaning Nigerians have welcomed the judgement of, Justice Usman Nababa in sentencing Abdumalik Tanko (38) and Hashim Isyaku (38) to death by hanging for the kidnapping, emotional torturing and killing of Hanifa Abubakar and for 5 years imprisonment each for conspiracy.
In a statement signed by the Minister of women Affairs Dame Pauline Tallen an accomplice, Fatima Musa was also sentenced to one year imprisonment for conspiracy and one year for attempt to commit an offence.
According to the statement, the heinous crimes perpetrated by the trios can be better appreciated when viewed against the backdrop that they not only abduct but waited for 10 days after the kid got missing before contacting the parents demanding for a ransom of N6M from the hapless parents.
The statement further commends the Security Agencies for stepping timeously into the investigation when Hanifa was reported missing by her parents and unravelling the involvement of each of the condemned criminals.
Nigerian women also commend the Kano State’s Attorney-General, Musa Abdullahi Lawan, who doubles as the Prosecution Counsel in the matter for diligently situating the offence committed by the defendants within the provisions of Sections 97, 274, 277and 221 of the Penal Code and charging it before the Courts for trial.
The statement conveys special appreciation of Nigerian women to the Governor of Kano State, Umar Ganduje who demonstrated the much-needed political will in declaring readiness to sign the death-warrant of the condemned abductors and killers of Hanifa Abubakar.
Nigerian women and mothers believe that the outcome of this judicial process is needed to breach the impunity with which societal turncoats proceed to visit sorrow, tears and blood on innocent members of the society, especially children.
