COURT OF APPEAL CALLS FOR COLLABORATION TO ENSURE CREDIBLE ELECTIONS

The Court of Appeal wants stronger collaboration with International donor agencies and institutions such as the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the International Republican Institute (IRI) to help improve the nation’s electoral and Democratic system.

The President of Court of Appeal Justice Dongban-Mensem made the call when she received the  joint pre-election assessment mission of NDI and IRI in Abuja.

Justice  Dongban-Mensem represented by Justice Haruna Tsammani described the assessment mission to Nigeria as apt that would help ensure credible elections in 2023.

Justice Dongban-Mensem explained that the outcome of their findings  usually form the basis for the constant review and adjustments in the Electoral Act as well as determines the basis of Nigeria’s preparedness for every election.

The President of Appeal Court said the Court plays a vital role in both pre and post election processes, noting that the appellate court  in consultation with Heads of Courts at the State level, including the Federal Capital Territory appoints judicial officers with requisite competence and integrity to serve as Tribunal Judges.

The leader of the pre-election assessment mission delegation, the  Secretary of State for Ohio (USA),  Frank LaRose said the purpose of the visit was to access the political landscape leading up to the Presidential elections in 2023.
