A Jos-based cleric and General Overseer of Evangelical Bible Outreach Ministries International Prophet Isa El -Buba has averred that the combination of two Muslims on the Presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was not in the interest of Nigeria’s unity.
He noted that the North has over 50 million competent Christians who could have been picked by the APC flag-bearer, Bola Ahmed Tinubu who regrettably, he said, preferred a Muslim.
Prophet El-Buba described the development as unhealthy, adding that it had created more discomfort among Nigerians by dividing the nation along religious lines.
He said with the division in Nigeria at the moment, any party with a same-faith ticket was unlikely to win elections.
“When President Muhammadu Buhari came on board in 2015, the Senate President became a Muslim, Speaker House of Representatives became a Muslim and the national chairman of the Party a Muslim, a situation that makes the rest of Nigerians to begin to nurse fears that there is an agenda,” he said.
He added that the situation in 1993 with MKO Abiola’s Muslim-Muslim ticket and that of today was not the same.
He further explained that Northern Nigeria was not only made up of the states in the far north, but that it also includes the Middle-Belt with states such as Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, Niger and Kwara States, most of which were dominated by the Christians.
He also rejected the appointment of Governor Simon Lalong as Director General of Tinubu /Shettima Presidential Campaign Council and described the appointment as an insult to the Christian community in the North.
