The Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has again insisted that he has no godfather, asserting that godfathers in the state are free to back whosoever they like come 2023.
Makinde, in an interview in Ibadan chorused his usual line of referring to the generality of Oyo State people have owned him. “The people of Oyo State own me, not a godfather,” Makinde suggested.
It will be recalled, against the governor’s outburst that few days before the 2019 governorship election, former Governor Rashidi Ladoja led the candidates of the African Democratic Congress, Olufemi Lanlehin; Zenith Labour Party, Sharafadeen Alli; Social Democratic Party, Bolaji Ayorinde and others to the NUJ press centre, Iyaganku where they all submitted their ambitions for Makinde.
In his reaction, to the allegations of abandonment of party faithful levelled against him by a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Femi Babalola (Jogor), Makinde, though admitted to making mistakes here and there, underscoring the fact he was not infallible, however insisted he had no deal with anybody prior to the 2019 governorship polls.
“It irritates me when people talk like that (referring to allegations of not keeping to prior gentleman agreements) because I have no deal with anyone”, Makinde maintained.
